Interior study

Two interior renders set the same question: a bathroom lined in pale stone, and a bedroom carried by a single warm bulb.

A render of a narrow bathroom lined in pale veined stone: a walk in shower with a square ceiling rain head, a hand shower and a dark grey stool, a fluted glass screen and a dried grass arrangement at the left, and on the right a wall hung basin with a dark towel, a round mirror and two glass pendant lights.
One light in the ceiling recess, two in the pendants, and stone everywhere else.

The study

One room, one light, one frame.

Two rooms built to see how far a single lighting idea carries. The bathroom is lit from a recess and a pair of pendants, and every surface in it is the same pale stone, so the only thing separating one plane from the next is the light falling on it.

The bedroom takes the opposite position. One warm bulb, a sculpted panel to break it up, and a sheer curtain to soften what comes through.

A render of a bedroom corner at night: a faceted black wire pendant over a red topped side table holding a camera, a laptop, a thick book and a metal vessel, a sheer curtain drawn across a sculpted wall panel behind, and the corner of a bed with a dark throw.
A single warm bulb, and a wall panel to catch it.

My contribution

Modelled, materialled, lit and framed.

I built both rooms, set their materials, placed the lights and chose the camera.

A render like this is a test of restraint more than of detail. The moment a second light source is added to flatter something, the study stops answering the question it was set.

What I made

  • A bathroom interior, modelled and lit end to end
  • A bedroom interior built around one lamp
  • Materials and lighting set for both rooms
